These are poems about Enoshima written by Akiko Yosano, a poet who lived for a short while in Fujisawa City.
Enoshima, with the glittering sea and upbeat atmosphere of Shonan, is currently popular for marine sports, such as yachting, surfing and beach volleyball. With its bathing beach and tourist spots, it attracts a great number of people from not only inside Kanagawa Prefecture, but also across the nation, every year.
Fujisawa City, a city with a long history and new culture and a population of 380,000, has been developing as the core city of the Shonan area, which is blessed with a temperate climate, comfortable housing environments, abundant nature and community-based industries such as manufacturing, commerce, agriculture and fishery.
Aiming for "Fujisawa, a city for lifelong enjoyment, open to the sea of Shonan," Fujisawa City is creating a new community for the 21st century where information can be transmitted nationwide as well as to the rest of the world.
Enoshima Aquarium
Enoshima Aquarium includes three halls: Hall No. 1 is the aquarium, Hall No. 2 is Marine Land and Hall No. 3 is the Ocean Zoo. Among other features, the Jellyfish Fantasy Hall and the Monaco tank that self-purifies with coral and bacteria are rare facilities. Whale and dolphin shows by the Marine Angels at Marine Land is Japan's first. "Minazo-kun" in the Ocean Zoo is a popular southern elephant seal weighing 3,000 kg.
Bathing beach
Katase Beach in Enoshima, a sandy beach 5 km long from east to west, is referred to as the Miami Beach of the Orient where fashionable bathing suits and colorful beach parasols prevail. You can enjoy sunbathing and happy summer memories here.
Yugyoji Temple
Yugyoji Temple, which is the head temple of the Jishu Buddhist sect, is one of Japan's 100 best scenic spots. Once belonging to the Nembutsu sect that was established by Saint Ippen (wayfaring saint) during the Kamakura era, the temple was later built by the fourth holy priest Donkai. The vast temple grounds located atop 48 steps of the Iroha Slope is filled with treasure halls, historical sites, cultural assets and many other places of interest.
Shonandai Cultural Center
The Children's Museum is designed to nurture children's dreams with its planetarium and ethnic costume corner. The Civic Theater is one of the world's handful of spherical theaters with its vast space, 24-m-high ceiling and a transformable stage.

We formed a sister-city affiliation based on citizens' exchanges between cities in mountainours regions and on seashores.

(1) Officials after three years of appointment received staff training in Fujisawa City (22 offcials trained in 2001)
(2) Twelve Fujisawa City officials received staff training in Matsumoto City
(3) Exchange meetings of citizens from seafront and mountainous
(4) Introduction of Fujisawa City by Fujisawa Castle Queen at Matsumoto Citizens' Festival
(5) Offering of exhibits by Matsumoto City to Fujisawa Industrial Festival held in 2000, offering exhibits by Fujisawa City to Rakuichi Rakuza of Shinano Products Exhibition
(6) Study and exchange meetings by the members of the municipal assemblies ( visit the mutual once during term of membership)
(7) Sister-city sports exchange meetings
(8) Construction of Fujisawa Mountain Villa in Matsumoto City
